Jason left for his latest deployment this morning and now we're counting down the days until he comes home! Two nice things about this deployment:
One, he was actually suppose to leave yesterday! We were getting ready to leave and drive him to the hanger when we got a phone call saying that something was wrong with the ship and Jason's squadron had an extra two hours before they had to brief. It was a great extra two hours hanging out at home and playing with Benjamin and then we got another phone call saying the brief had been pushed back two more hours. We used that extra time to zip to the commissary and then finally got another phone call saying the ship wasn't pulling out after all and we had a whole extra night to spend with Jason!!
Two, this deployment is technically considered a surge, which means it shouldn't last as long as a typical 6 month separation...but Jason will still miss the birth of baby number two :(
This has turned into a tradition. Here are Jason and Benjamin slightly over a year ago when Jason deployed and Benjamin was just 6 weeks old:

And when Jason flys home, he'll have both arms full for the next picture by the plane!

After Ed left for Kuwait, one of the nicest things someone said to me was, "Now we can count the days until he returns!" Yes, that countdown was much more pleasant than the countdown of the days before he left.
Hey Rogge's...I like the tradition of pictures in front of the plane. The blog's still looking good. I trust all is well with you all.
Lots of love,
Patrick
