We dropped Samuel off at my parents' house and then Benjamin and I went to the ENT. He did GREAT!! He was so well behaved in the waiting room (looking at books we'd brought while I filled out the paperwork). Once we were back in the smaller waiting room, he was thrilled to check out the patient chair and specialized equipment as well as all of the detailed ear and nose posters decorating the walls.
He charmed the nurses by being willing to do whatever they asked: Shoes off to be measured for height? No problem! Earbuds in ears for two different hearing tests? No problem! Sit still as a mouse and be very quiet during the hearing tests? No problem! Two stickers as a reward? No, thanks, one sticker is sufficient. The good news is that Benjamin's ears are finally clear!! No ear infections and the fluid that was hanging around last week is gone. We opted to skip tubes for right now and pray that he doesn't get any ear infections this summer. Hopefully by the time Autumn rolls around, his ears will be bigger to allow for better drainage. Of course, if he does develop an ear infection in the meantime, we'll go right ahead and get tubes.
The one thing that made me a tiny bit sad is realizing that he is growing up; for the first time, he opted to sit in the chair next to me instead of in my lap while I read out loud to him in the waiting room. Thankfully he's still happy to snuggle up at home!
After the ENT visit, we ran an errand and then got Benjamin a Cookies & Cream cupcake at Carolina Cupcakery as a treat for being so brave at the doctor's office. (We'd been talking all morning about being brave when an unfamiliar doctor looks in ears...B was not looking forward to it.)
Although it involved a lengthy stay at the ENT, spending yesterday morning alone with Benjamin was a treat. I think I need to make individual mornings with both boys a new priority!
