Pumpkin Pickin'

Among the produce we have seen growing in the fields within a seven mile radius of our home, including tomatoes, celery, cabbage, strawberries, red peppers, onions, sod, and even artichokes (!), are a few pumpkin patches. Yesterday, Jason, Lucy, and I decided it was high time we visited a local pumpkin patch and picked out our pumpkin for this Halloween.

We stopped by Pete's Pumpkin Patch and found a huge selection of three different varieties of pumpkins. We ended up getting a larger traditional Jack-O-Lantern pumpkin to carve and smaller Jack-O-Lantern pumpkin in honor of our little bean. You can see both pumpkins in the wheelbarrow.

Behind Jason, you can see some lighter colored pumpkins that are massive in size. These are called Big Moon pumpkins because on one side of each pumpkin there is a large blueish/greenish splotch of color. Some of these pumpkins weigh so much that Jason couldn't even pick them up and Pete, of Pete's Pumpkin Patch, guessed they weigh about 130lbs.

The patch also had a third variety of pumpkin called Big Macs. These are a very bright orange and look very Halloweenish.

Lucy just loved going all over the pumpkin patch. I couldn't believe how many different smells there must have been; a true dog sniffing paradise.
