Lucy's Christmas

Thankfully our tree has lasted one more week! We had a fun time opening gifts by the tree this morning but the most fun was watching Lucy open up her two presents. Since she loves playing ball and jumping into the ocean, Jason bought a large purple rubber ball with a study rope through the middle that floats. He wrapped it up for Lucy but she wasn't quite sure what to do with the wrapping paper! After Jason gave her a little help and showed her how to tear the paper, Lucy really got into the unwrapping business. She loves her new purple ball and had a great time chasing it in the backyard and shaking it all around by the rope. We can't wait to take her to the beach to try it out in the water.

Lucy's second present was a bag of pig's ears and this time she was a bit better at unwrapping it. After Jason gave her one pig's ear, instead of eating it, Lucy held it in her mouth and wandered around the living room before finally waiting to be let out the back door. We watched her meander around the backyard and then she went behind the grill...and buried her treat! She very carefully finished the job by nosing dirt on top of it. We have never seen Lucy show an interest in burying anything so this was a rather cute display of her natural canine instincts :)

I am amazed at Lucy. I can't believe she buried her treat! Lady probably doesn't have good canine instincts because she would have finished those treats off in 5 minutes! Her only "instinct" seems to always be Carpe Diem. Cause tomorrow may not come. :-)
