Catalina Island--The Pictures

We passed this little boat house on our way out of Long Beach: My mom has always wanted to take the Queen Mary transatlantic voyage to England. I agree that taking a cruise over sure beats being stuck in an airplane! I couldn't believe it when we passed right by the QM: It is about 30 minutes to reach Catalina Island by ferry and this was the first part we saw. I think it is part of a nice hotel. Here is another cruise ship docked just off the island. We didn't realize that Catalina was such a popular destination! Avalon is the name of the small residential town on the shore of Catalina. There are not many cars on the island; everyone prefers to walk and the locals zip around on golf carts. It is a very quaint place and we could see why is such a huge tourist attraction during the summer. Evidently it used to be a huge playground for celebrities many years ago, especially during the Big Band years. It was fun to be there when it was all decked out for Christmas. This is on our way to dinner. Benjamin did great on the whole trip! He slept in his pack-n-play and we covered it completely up with an extra blanket to block out the light and to keep him from seeing us. It worked pretty well except that we are not used to sleeping in the same room with him and so woke up constantly throughout the night with every little squeak that he made in his sleep! Here he is playing with my toothbrush holder before getting ready for bed: And unfortunately, that is the last of the pictures! That night it got cold, windy, and rainy. We decided to cut our trip short and take the morning ferry back to Long Beach instead of waiting for the afternoon. It was a good thing we did--due to the weather, they canceled the afternoon ferry and we would have been stuck for another sleepless night! We did have a fun time just doing something different and it was a good reminder that the pace of life is much slower with a baby :)
