Jason's Travels: Dubai

Jason was just in Dubai earlier this week. This is his second time visiting Dubai and again, he seemed less than impressed...I think a lot had to do with how incredibly hot it is there!! One of the days that he went out to lunch with some of the other guys, they got a discount on their food that equalled the temperature. The temperature was 42 degrees Celsius so they got their meal for 42 percent off! (FYI: 42 Celsius equals 107.6 Fahrenheit...yikes!) To try and escape the heat, some of the guys rented a hotel room for a day just so they could cool off in the pool! Others tried hitting the beach only to discover that the sand was so hot it was impossible to walk on in their bare feet and the ocean water felt hotter than a bath.
Whenever the ship visits Dubai, no one is allowed to spend the night on shore so that makes it impossible for the guys to have access to faster internet connections in the hotel rooms. This meant that unfortunately we weren't able to Skype with Jason. The ship rents a bunch of cell phone for all of the personal to use (everyone has to purchase a calling card) but with the high demand for cell phones, it typically means that they aren't fully charged and conversations are frequently cut short. I am thankful, however, that Jason and I were able to talk a lot during the 2 and 1/2 days he was in Dubai. Even better, Jason got to hear Benjamin say quite a few words and run through his repertoire of animal sounds :)
