Here is the plane being catapulted off the carrier. Jason describes it as an intense roller coaster ride when you are sitting the plane and all of a sudden it takes off. This is a short video of him in the catshot that he took last February on his surge cruise.This is an overhead shot of the carrier; it is still so strange to me to realize that most of the time they are out in the middle of the ocean and all they see is water, water everywhere.
This is what the pilots see when they are approaching the carrier to land...
And this is what it looks like from the ship to watch an E-2 land. If you look at the back of the plane, you can see the straight line hanging down. This is the tail hook that picks up the trap to bring the plane to a stop.
You can see the tail hook a little bit better.
